I have heard Dou Wei's Penchant for paiting for quite
some time, but did not got a chance to see the real stuff until early
2002. From a prefessional point of view, his paitings seems more or
less doodling and not very serious. However, Dou Wei did take his
drwaing habit quite seriously. He learned some basic drawing skills
in high school, put it off for a while to make his music. And he picked
it again since 1997 and never let it go. He'd rather paint randomly
and without a specific aim. This is just something I am accustomed
to, as he points out, just like watching sky above and seasonal changes
around, while enjoy the quietness of being. As a fan and a friend
observing from some distance which I tried to keep in order not to
be too overwhelmed by his overall talent, I can sense his gifted introvert,
the insightful reflection of the outer world in his own unique view
and the delicates between the lines few others could heed. Dou Wei's
doodling is trivial but not insignificant, full of dedicated amateurism,
a simple pleasure for the like-minded. But to single one out for professional
scrutiny is just too much ado for nothing. |
